Two days in Kullu: the climb to Bijli Mahadev on the first morning, then Dhalpur, rafting at Pirdi and the stone temple at Bajaura, with measured road times.
Two days is what Kullu is worth if you like temples and can walk. The first morning takes the ridge at Bijli Mahadev while it is cool and gives the afternoon to the bazaar. The second stays on the valley floor: the fair ground, the river at Pirdi, and the stone temple at Bajaura that predates everything in the town.
Nothing here needs booking. The taxi to the road-end is arranged the evening before, the rafting is decided at the river on the day, and the temples keep their own hours.

A first visit with a night to spare, walkers who want a temple at the end of a climb, and anyone flying into Bhuntar who would rather not drive straight to Manali. For a single day, take the one-day town plan or the Bijli Mahadev day.

Day 1
Chansari and the climb to Bijli Mahadev, then the bazaar
The walk while it is cool, the town when it is warm. Up the ridge road at first light, on the top by mid-morning, down for a late lunch and the bazaar in the afternoon.

Day 2
Dhalpur, the river at Pirdi, and the stone temple at Bajaura
A slower day on the valley floor — the fair ground first, the rafting stretch below the town, then 15 km south to the oldest temple in the valley and back to the road out.

Getting there
Fly to Bhuntar, 11 km and 17 minutes below the town, or take the highway: 40 km and about 49 minutes from Manali, 69 km and 98 minutes from Mandi, 225 km from Chandigarh. Buses stop in the bazaar. The plan ends at Bhuntar, so a flight out or the Parvati bus follows naturally.
Where to stay
One night in the town — the bazaar for the buses and the temple, Dhalpur for quiet five minutes away. Raison, 15 km and 20 minutes up the valley, is the river alternative but adds to the first morning's drive.
Know before you go
- Do the ridge on the first morning; leaving it to the second gives the heat a second chance.
- Carry water for the whole climb and a layer for the top, in any month.
- Rafting depends on the water, not the calendar; ask at Pirdi rather than booking ahead.
- Bajaura is off the highway and easy to pass; the turning is signposted and the temple sits back from the road.
- Prices are bands checked in September 2026 and quoted on the day.

Is two days enough for Kullu?
Yes, for the town and one proper walk. Two days covers the ridge temple, the bazaar, the Raghunath temple, the fair ground, the rafting stretch and Bajaura. A third day would add the left bank at Naggar and Jana, 23 km and 36 minutes across the river.
Where should you sleep between the two days?
In the town. The bazaar is closest to the temple and the buses and the cheapest, Dhalpur is five minutes quieter, and both put you 28 minutes from the road-end at Chansari for the early start the ridge needs.
Can you do this plan flying in and out of Bhuntar?
Yes, and it is built for it: the airport is 11 km and about 17 minutes from the town, the plan ends at Bhuntar on the second afternoon, and the temple at Bajaura is on the way. Flights are few and weather-dependent, so keep the return loose.
