Tosh

Tosh is a village 7 to 10 minutes by road above Barshaini, 20 km and 50 min from Kasol: terraces facing the snow, old timber houses, rooms for a night.

What it is

A village on a shelf above the head of the Parvati road, 7 to 10 minutes by road beyond the bridge at Barshaini. Old timber-and-stone houses at the top, guesthouses and café terraces at the bottom facing the snow across the valley, and terraced fields stepping down to the river. It is the valley's village-on-the-hill: the place people go up to for lunch and, if they are wise, stay the night.

Getting there

From Kasol, 37 minutes by road to Barshaini and 7 to 10 minutes more up to Tosh — about 20 km and 50 minutes in all. The taxi to Barshaini is typically ₹800–1,500 one way as of September 2026; agree Tosh with the driver. The valley bus stops at Barshaini, and a shared taxi covers the last stretch. From where the road stops, a few minutes on foot up the lanes; the old houses at the top are the last flight of steps.

The day

Up in the morning for the clear view. A slow lunch on a terrace with the snow in front of you, the old houses at the top of the village for the last flight of steps, and down by mid-afternoon — or a room for the night, which is the better plan. After dark there is nothing to do, and that is the point.

When to go

March to June and September to November for the walking and the view; October for the clearest sky. The monsoon makes the road slippery and the view cloud. From late December to February the village is under snow for weeks at a time — cold, half closed, and the reason for the winter plan.

Does Tosh get snow?

From late December to February, often for weeks at a time; the road above Barshaini can be icy or shut and some guesthouses close. The village sits well above Kasol, which rarely sees snow at all. A winter night here is the snow trip of the Parvati valley.
