No one has started a group going to Kausani yet. Start one and other travellers can ask to come along.
Kausani is a hill station in Bageshwar district, at about 1,890 m on a pine ridge above the Someshwar valley. It is known for the view from the ridge, which Wikipedia describes as a panorama 300 km wide, taking in Trisul, Nanda Devi and Panchchuli. Mahatma Gandhi, who stayed here, likened its landscape to Switzerland. By road it is about 52 km and 101 minutes from Almora and about 58 km and 111 minutes from Ranikhet on our routing.
The town's own attractions are small: the Anasakti Ashram where Gandhi wrote on the Gita, the Lakshmi Ashram founded by his follower Sarla Behn in 1946, a museum to the poet Sumitranandan Pant, born here, and tea gardens about 5 km out. We found no verified map points for them, so they are described but not planned. Down the valley are the Baijnath temples, a Katyuri group about 17 km and 41 minutes away, and the Bagnath Temple in Bageshwar, about 38 km and 77 minutes away, where the Sarayu and Gomati meet.
Treks leave from the area for the Pindari and Kafni glaciers; we have no timed trails or permit details. Delhi is about 409 km on our routing, and the nearest railhead is Kathgodam, about 132 km and 258 minutes away. The clearest views are in the cold, dry months; read when to visit, how to reach Kausani and things to do in Kausani, and copy the one-day plan.
