Kaziranga

Kaziranga National Park, Assam: the one-horned rhinoceros, the four ranges, jeep and elephant safaris, Kohora, Deopahar, the road from Guwahati and when to go.

Kaziranga is a World Heritage Site and Tiger Reserve on the south bank of the Brahmaputra in Assam, and the best-known home of the Indian one-horned rhinoceros. The state tourism site says the park holds two-thirds of the world's population of the species. Wikipedia adds the largest populations of wild water buffalo and eastern swamp deer, and a large herd of elephants.

The park is entered at Kohora, a small town on National Highway 37 in Golaghat district, where the Central Range begins. The state tourism site names four ranges, Central at Kohora, Western at Bagori, Eastern at Agoratoli and Burapahar, and says jeep safaris run in all four and elephant safaris in the Central and Western ranges. Wikivoyage says the park is closed in the floods from May to October, and the state site names November to April as the best months, so plan for the dry season. Read the park guide before you book.

Kohora is about 190 km from Guwahati by road, and the nearest airport is Jorhat, about 90 km away. Read how to reach Kaziranga, the best time to go and things to do in Kaziranga, and copy the one day at Kaziranga or the two days with the Western Range and Deopahar.
