About HimLocal
Our vision
Two promises, one platform. For travellers: the Himalaya on a map you can actually explore — trails, treks, peaks, viewpoints, temples, cafés and stays — so you discover what is near you and plan a trip that feels local, not templated. For businesses: every hotel, homestay, café, shop and guide deserves a fast website, honest software to run on, and a real chance to be found online. We build both sides so the money and the attention reach the people doing the work.
For travellers — explore, plan, book direct
Open the Explore map and move through the whole Himalaya in 3D — drop into a first-person peak view to see what a summit really looks like, trace a walking trail before you walk it, and tap any place to add it straight to a trip. Then book what you find: stays, multi-day treks, road tours, day adventures like rafting and paragliding, café orders and a shop of Himalayan produce and crafts — all direct from verified local hosts, with payment settling to them, not an aggregator.
Treks and trails, first — and visualised
Most travel sites bury the mountains under hotels. We do it the other way round. Treks and trails come first: drawn on the map, shown in 3D terrain, with real routes you can preview and add to a plan. Curated multi-day treks carry fixed departures and verified local guides. The map is the product — everything else hangs off the place you are looking at.
For local businesses — every tool to do business
HimLocal is also the operating system for the businesses on it. We build vendor websites end-to-end — restaurants, cafés, hotels, homestays and retail shops — with top-tier performance and search visibility, plus the software to run them: a restaurant management system, a property management system with a channel manager, and a retail store with inventory and billing. We handle SEO, answer-engine and generative-engine optimisation, Google Merchant Center and Google Ads setup, so a small mountain business can be found the way a city one is. Pricing is one honest annual plan with staff and inventory included — see our partner site for details.
How we choose what to show
We don't list anything we haven't verified. A homestay, a café, a trail — someone from the team checks it before it goes live, in person where we can. Verification usually takes about 2–3 weeks in Himachal and a little longer as we reach further out.
How vendors keep their margin
When you buy or book through HimLocal, the maker or host sees the order with their name and your note, and payment settles directly to their own account. Our take is small and disclosed up front — and on a vendor's own website it is zero. There is no aggregator skimming an 18–25% cut on top.
How far we reach
We are deepest in Himachal Pradesh today — Manali, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Dharamshala, Spiti, Kasol, Bir, Tirthan and Jibhi — and map discovery of trails, peaks and viewpoints already spans the wider Indian Himalaya into Uttarakhand, Ladakh, Sikkim and the North-East. Our software and website services are available pan-India, and stay comparison reaches across India and into Nepal. Himalaya-focused today; building outward as we verify more local partners.
Where we work from
A team building from the Himalayas, incubated at IIT Mandi Catalyst, based in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh. Our office is mostly the road.
