What can you do around Kausani in one day?
Watch the Himalayan range from the ridge at sunrise, then drive down the valley to the Baijnath temples, about 41 minutes away on our routing, and on to the Bagnath Temple in Bageshwar, about 77 minutes from Kausani. It is a long day on hill roads, so leave early and keep the afternoon free for the return.
Is the Bageshwar leg worth it?
Yes if you like old temples: the Bagnath Temple stands at the confluence of two rivers and is the shrine the town is named after. The Baijnath temples are nearer and can be a shorter half-day on their own. We have no verified opening hours; ask locally and avoid the January Uttarayani fair if you want quiet.
When are the mountain views clearest?
Early in the morning, and in the cold dry months, by the usual pattern of the Himalayan foothills. Wikipedia describes a panorama about 300 km wide of Trisul, Nanda Devi and Panchchuli, but gives no weather table, so we cannot promise clear days. Check the forecast and be flexible with the day.
