Kasol in October and November — three clear days: Rasol, the harvest villages, Tosh at dawn
The Parvati valley's best season in three days: the clear light on the river, the steep walk to Rasol, Tosh at dawn and the harvest orchards at Pulga.
If there is one season for the Parvati valley it is this one. The monsoon leaves in late September and the air clears; October at Bhuntar has 24.8 mm of rain against July's 136, days of about 28 °C on the valley floor and nights of 10 °C, and November is colder and clearer still. The paths are dry, the river is down to its clear level, the orchards at Pulga and Kalga are in harvest, and by mid-November the first snow is on the range above Tosh.
This plan takes the three things the season does best: the clear light on the river, the steep walk to Rasol that the summer heat makes unpleasant, and Tosh at dawn with the sun on the range. It is written for people who carry a camera, but it works for anyone who likes a clear day. Every road minute is measured on the actual road.

Photographers and walkers in the valley's best month. The Rasol day is steep — swap it for the Kheerganga night if the legs want the long walk instead, or for a second river day if they want nothing. October's long weekends fill the valley; book the room a day ahead then.

Day 1
The clear light on the river, and Choj
The valley's best weather begins the moment the monsoon leaves. Arrive, cross the river, and give the first afternoon to the water and the light — the range above Kasol is sharpest before the afternoon haze.

Day 2
Rasol — the steep one, on the clearest day of the year
The valley's hard short walk, saved for these months because the path is dry and the upper slope has no shade — two to three hours up from Chalal to a village with no road, tea, and the same way down.

Day 3
Tosh at dawn, the harvest villages, and the road
An early taxi to the road-end and the hour's climb to Tosh for the first light on the range, then the orchards at Pulga at their fullest before the road down.

- ↓ 1 h 18 min by road · 5 km11:30PulgaDown and across the stream to the wooden village in the orchards, half an hour above Barshaini: apples on the trees or just off them. The deodar wood above the village for an hour, then the walk down to the taxi and the road to Bhuntar.
Getting there
Through Bhuntar, 32 km and about 70 minutes below Kasol. The valley road is at its best in these months and the flights to Bhuntar at their most reliable. The plan's last day ends at the road-end with a taxi through Kasol to Bhuntar, which suits an afternoon flight or an evening bus.
Where to stay
Chalal for the river light and the Rasol start on its doorstep, or Choj for the camps on the water while the evenings are still mild. From November the nights are cold; ask for a room with a heater or a thick quilt, and eat early — the cafés on the far bank close sooner as the season turns.
Know before you go
- October long weekends fill Chalal and Tosh; book a day ahead, walk in on weekdays.
- Prices are bands checked in September 2026 and quoted on the day.
- Start Rasol by eight; the upper slope is in full sun by eleven even in October.
- The Tosh dawn needs the taxi arranged the evening before; the stand opens late.
- Cash for everything above Kasol; the ATMs empty over a long weekend.
- By mid-November the first snow closes the Kheerganga camps — the walks below the road-end carry on.

Is October a good time to visit Kasol?
The best. The monsoon has gone, October has 24.8 mm of rain at Bhuntar against July's 136, the days are warm and the nights cool, the paths are dry and the orchards are in harvest. The long weekends are busy; the weekdays between them are the valley at its finest.
Is Kasol cold in November?
Cool by day and cold by night: Bhuntar's normals give about 23 °C and 5 °C, and Kasol sits well above the airport. The first snow reaches the range above Tosh by mid-month and the Kheerganga camps close; the valley itself stays open and the light is the clearest of the year.
What is there to photograph in Kasol in autumn?
