Choj

What it is

The hamlet at the end of the bridge road across the Parvati from Kasol: camps and guesthouses on the water, a few cafés, and the river a few metres away. It is the near end of the far bank — Chalal is twenty minutes further along the river path — and it suits people who want to sleep beside the water without the walk.

Getting there

A few minutes on foot from the market over the vehicle bridge and along the far bank, or two by taxi with bags. The river path to Chalal continues from it.

The day

Choj is where you sleep; the days are the valley's. Breakfast by the river, the market across the bridge for the taxi stand and the bakeries, Manikaran eight minutes up the road, and the river path to Chalal for the evening. Groups take the camps for the bonfires; couples usually go on to Chalal.

When to go

March to June and September to November for the river at its best; the camps close or thin out in the monsoon and the winter, when the guesthouses carry on.
