Three days in Kasol — Chalal, the road-end and the walk up to Tosh, then Manikaran
The classic three days in Kasol: the river and Chalal, the taxi to Barshaini and the walk up to Tosh, Manikaran's springs on the way out, with measured times.
This is the plan we would give anyone with three days and no fixed idea beyond "Kasol". One day for the river and Chalal, one for the road-end and the walk up to Tosh, and a last morning at Manikaran before the road down. It does the valley's three different things — the town, the village on the hill, the springs — without a trek and without a long day.
Everything is on the day: the taxi to Barshaini is arranged the evening before at the stand, rooms are walk-in outside the peak weeks, and the gurdwara's hall and springs are free. The road minutes are measured on the actual road, and the walk to Tosh is an hour up on a paved path.

Who this is for
First visits with a weekend and a day to spare, families with children old enough for an hour's climb, anyone who wants the valley rather than the trek. For the trek, the Kheerganga plan is the same three days with the night at the top; with only one night, the two-day plan.
Day by day
Day 1
The river day — market, bridge, Chalal
Arrive by late morning and spend the day on foot around Kasol. The bridge, the pine path to Chalal, a long lunch by the river, and an evening in the market to arrange tomorrow's taxi.

Day 2
The road-end and the walk up to Tosh
A taxi to Barshaini, 37 minutes up the valley, then an hour on foot up to Tosh for lunch and the view. Back to the road-end by mid-afternoon, and Pulga on the way down if legs allow.

Day 3
Manikaran, then the road down the valley
The gurdwara and the hot springs at Manikaran fill the last morning — eight minutes up the road, free, and busiest by midday. Then the bus or taxi down through Jari to Bhuntar.
- 09:00Gurudwara Sahib ManikaranHead covered, shoes off: the langar hall, the tanks fed by the springs, the steam over the river side. Everyone is welcome and nothing is charged. Go early, before the day-trip buses arrive.
- ↓ a short walk10:30ManikaranThe town's lane and the temple across the bridge. Rice cooked in spring water is the thing to try. By eleven the buses have arrived; that is the moment to leave for the road down — Jari, Bhuntar and the airport are about an hour and a half below.
Getting there
Through Bhuntar, where the airport and every valley bus are: 32 km and about 70 minutes to Kasol by taxi. The overnight bus from Delhi's Kashmere Gate reaches Bhuntar in the morning; from Manali it is about two hours down the Beas and up the Parvati. The plan's last day ends back on that road, so a flight or bus out of Bhuntar in the afternoon works.
Where to stay
Kasol for the first two nights if you want the market at your door, Chalal if you want the river at it. Tosh has rooms too, and some people move up there for the second night — it turns the plan into a different one, quieter and higher, and the Manikaran morning becomes a longer drive.
Know before you go
- Cash for the whole stay: the Kasol ATMs empty on weekends and there are none above.
- Prices are bands checked in September 2026 and quoted on the day; peak weeks in May and June run higher.
- The Tosh path is paved but steep in places — shoes, not sandals.
- Go to the gurdwara before ten; the day-trip buses arrive by eleven.
- The Parvati is not for swimming. Sit by it, do not step in.

With a night at the top: the Kheerganga trek plan swaps the Tosh day for the walk up the valley and a night by the spring.
For a slower three days: the couples plan stays in Chalal and adds the Rasol walk.
In the monsoon: the monsoon plan keeps Tosh and drops the paths that slide.

How far is Tosh from Kasol?
About 20 km and 50 minutes by road to the village car park as of September 2026, or 37 minutes to Barshaini and an hour on foot up the paved path. This plan takes the road to Barshaini and walks, which is the better way to arrive.
Is three days enough for Kasol and Manikaran?
Yes. Two nights cover the river and Chalal, a full day up the valley to Tosh, and a morning at Manikaran before the road down. A Kheerganga night or the Malana walk each need a day added; with four days the friends plan does the Tosh night and the trek back to back.
What does a three-day Kasol trip cost?
Using the bands we checked in September 2026: rooms ₹800–2,500 a night, the taxi to Barshaini ₹800–1,500 one way, meals in the cafés a few hundred rupees a head, and the gurdwara free. Two people manage it comfortably on a modest budget; the bus instead of taxis halves the transport.
