Raison

Raison sits on the Beas 15 km above Kullu, where the river runs wide over gravel and the camps stand on the bank: what a night costs, and what there is to do.

What it is

A village on the right bank of the Beas between Kullu and Manali, where the river runs wide and slow enough over gravel for camps to stand on its bank. Orchards behind, the highway through it, and a stretch of water used for rafting and for sitting beside. It is 15 km and about 20 minutes up the valley from the town.

Staying on the bank

The camps are the reason people stop: tents on the gravel, meals included, typically ₹1,500–3,500 a night as of September 2026. The ones nearest the water hear nothing but the river; the ones nearest the road hear the highway. In May and June they fill on weekends and the prices go up with them. In a storm the bank is an exposed place, so look at the tent before you pay for it.

The river

Wide, cold and fast with snowmelt through the summer. The rafting runs start downstream at Pirdi, 4 km below the town; at Raison the river is for walking beside rather than swimming in, and the current is stronger than the surface suggests. Mornings are the clearest hours, before the light gets on the water.

Around it

Naggar Castle is 23 km and 36 minutes from the town on the left bank, and the road up to Jana Falls leaves from that side. The ridge at Bijli Mahadev is a morning from the road-end at Chansari. The river plan sleeps here; the left-bank plan passes through on its way across.

Where is Raison?

On the right bank of the Beas between Kullu and Manali, 15 km and about 20 minutes up the valley from the town. Buses on the highway stop here; from Manali it is about half an hour down. The camps sit on the gravel bank below the road.
