Things to do in Kasol — 11 in the Parvati valley, by distance
How this list is built
Kasol is a base, not a sight: the river, the pines and the cafés are the town, and almost everything worth doing is up or across the Parvati from it. So this list is in order of distance, with our measured road minutes from Kasol and, for the walks, the times walkers report rather than the router's guess.

On foot and across the river
1. Kasol itself, along the Parvati
The market street and the riverside paths under the pines. Walk the bank in the early morning, before the cafés open and the day trippers arrive.
2. Chalal, over the footbridge
Chalal is the village across the bridge, about 2 min by road and a short walk through the pine wood beside the river. Quieter than Kasol, with guesthouses and a few cafés.
3. Rasol, the high village
Rasol sits high above Chalal on the ridge. Walkers report three to four hours up from Chalal. Go with someone who knows the path and start early.
Up the valley road
4. Manikaran, the hot springs and the gurdwara
About 8 min up the road. Manikaran is a pilgrimage town of hot springs, with the Gurudwara Sahib Manikaran over the river and the temples beside it. Bathe in the hot pools and eat at the langar.
5. Jari and the turning for Malana
Jari, about 19 min down the valley, is the village at the turning for the Malana road, with guesthouses.
6. Malana
Malana is the village up its own gorge from Jari, with its own rules. The road ends about 43 min from Kasol and walkers report one to one and a half hours on foot from there. Read the rules of Malana before you go: do not touch the temple, its walls or the people, and do not enter the houses.
7. Barshaini, the end of the road
Barshaini, about 37 min up the valley, is the road-head for Tosh, Kalga, Pulga and the Kheerganga path.
8. Tosh
Tosh is the village stacked on the slope at the top of the road, 7 to 10 min beyond Barshaini by road and about 50 min from Kasol. The views up the valley are the reason to come.
9. Kalga and Pulga
Kalga and Pulga, the orchard villages above Barshaini, are each half an hour to an hour's walk from the road-head, by walkers' reports. An easy half-day with apple trees and forest.
The long walks
10. Kheerganga
The hot spring at Kheerganga is the walk most people come to the valley for. From Barshaini walkers report five to six hours up and three to four down, through forest, so most people sleep at the top and come down the next morning. The Kheerganga trek guide has the detail.
11. Sar Pass
Sar Pass is a four-to-five-day guided trek over the ridge south of the Parvati, run as fixed departures in April to June and September to October, not a day out.
Plan it
Two days: the two-day first visit. Three days with Kheerganga: the Kheerganga trek in three days. For the quieter villages, see offbeat places near Kasol, and for the seasons, the best time to visit Kasol.

Questions people ask
What are the top things to do in Kasol?
Walk across to Chalal along the river and bathe in the hot springs at Manikaran. Drive to the top of the road at Barshaini and Tosh, and walk up to Kalga or Pulga. With two days, climb to the hot spring at Kheerganga and sleep there. Malana is a day of its own.
How long is the Kheerganga walk from Kasol?
Drive about 37 min to the road-head at Barshaini, then walk. Walkers report five to six hours up and three to four down, so most people sleep at the top. It is a steady forest path to the hot spring, not a technical climb, but it is long; start in the morning.
How many days do you need in Kasol?
Two days for the town, Chalal and Manikaran with an afternoon at Tosh; three to add Kheerganga with a night at the top; four or five for Malana, Kalga and a slow day on the river. The valley rewards slow days more than a crowded list.
