How this list is built
"Offbeat" here means off the main street of Kasol, where most visits begin and end. Every place below has its own page on this site and a public road or path to it. The drive times are our own routing from Kasol, and the walks come from each place's page. Sorted by how far you travel.

Questions people ask
What are the offbeat places near Kasol?
Seven that we have written up: Choj, Jari, Kalga, Pulga, Nakthan, Rudranag and Rasol. Choj and Jari are on the road, while Kalga, Pulga, Nakthan, Rudranag and Rasol are reached on foot, from Barshaini or from Chalal, so each page gives the walk as well as the drive.
Which are the easiest?
Choj is minutes from the market across the bridge, and Jari is a tea stop 19 minutes down the road. Kalga and Pulga are the shortest walks, about twenty to thirty minutes up from the road-end at Barshaini. Rasol is the hardest, a climb of several hours.
Do you need a guide for the walks?
These are village paths rather than trekking routes, and most walkers go without one. They are still real climbs at altitude, so carry water, start early and tell your guesthouse where you are going. Our pages give the walking times that other walkers report.
