Treks in Himachal by length and month — an hour's walk to a five-day crossing
How this list is grouped
Difficulty is personal; time is not. So this list sorts Himachal's best-known walks by how long they take, using our measured paths where the router can follow them and walkers' reported ranges where it cannot. Each links to its own page with the route and the season.

Short walks, an hour or two up
[Chehni Kothi](/places/chehni-kothi). From the Shringa Rishi temple above Jibhi, walkers report 45 to 60 min up to the tower temple above its village.
[Bijli Mahadev](/places/bijli-mahadev-temple). Drive about 28 min from Kullu to Chansari, then 106 min up and 68 down on our measured path, a stone track to the temple on the ridge.
[Upper Jogini Falls](/places/jogini-falls). From Vashisht above Manali, a walk of about an hour and a half to two hours to the falls.
[Malana](/places/malana). From the road-end above Jari, walkers report an hour to an hour and a half to the village. Read the village's rules first.
[Serolsar](/places/serolsar-lake) and [Raghupur](/places/raghupur-fort). Two ridge walks from Jalori Pass: Serolsar 123 min out and 89 back on our measure, mostly level; Raghupur up to two hours up. See the Jalori guide.
Full days
[Triund](/places/triund). Walkers report four to five hours up from McLeod Ganj and about three down: a steady climb to a meadow facing the Dhauladhar. Most do it in a day; many camp. See the Triund trek guide.
[Rasol](/places/rasol). From Chalal across the river from Kasol, walkers report three to four hours up to the high village on the ridge.
Overnight
[Kheerganga](/places/kheerganga-hot-spring). From Barshaini above Kasol, walkers report five to six hours up and three to four down, with a hot spring and camps at the top; most people sleep there. See the Kheerganga trek guide.
Multi-day, with a guide
[Beas Kund](/places/beas-kund). Usually three days: drive about 34 min from Manali to Dhundi above Solang, walk to the camp at Bakarthach, reach the lake, four to five hours up from Dhundi, and come out. Late May to mid-October.
[Bhrigu Lake](/places/bhrigu-lake). At 4,235 m above Gulaba, about 35 min from Manali; two to three days with a night at the meadows. The lake can be half under ice into June.
[Sar Pass](/places/sar-pass). A four-to-five-day guided crossing from Kasol over the ridge south of the Parvati, on snow, run as fixed departures from April to June and September to October.
[Churdhar](/blog/churdhar-trek-guide). The 3,647 m summit of Shirgul Maharaj in Sirmaur, about 18 km on foot from Nohradhar or 8 km from Sarain. No published walking times; go with someone who knows the route.
How hard, and which months
We do not grade these walks, because a grade is an opinion and we have only measured times. What our pages do say is this. Triund is a steady, continuous climb with nothing technical in it. Serolsar is long and easy through forest; Raghupur beside it is short and steep. Sar Pass is a crossing on snow in every month it runs, with about six hours of walking a day.
The months, from each page:
- March to June and September to November: Triund, for the clearest views and driest trail.
- April to June and September to November: Kheerganga, with October the best of them, and
Serolsar, where the path holds snow into April and again from December.
- Late May to mid-October: Beas Kund and Bhrigu Lake, with September and early October the
clearest. Snow lies on both routes into June.
- April to June and September to October: Sar Pass. April and May mean more snow and harder
going, and the monsoon closes the crossing.
- July and August: the wet months. Slides and mud close the paths at Kheerganga, and cloud hides
the Dhauladhar from Triund.
For Churdhar, the district's page gives no months, only that the summit takes heavy snow; ask locally before you set out.

Questions people ask
What is the easiest trek in Himachal?
The short walks: Chehni Kothi above Jibhi, which walkers report at three quarters of an hour to an hour up, and Bijli Mahadev above Kullu, 106 min up on our measured path. Serolsar from Jalori Pass is long but nearly level.
How long does the Triund trek take?
Walkers report four to five hours up from McLeod Ganj and about three down. Most people do it in one long day, starting by seven, and many sleep at the top for the view of the Dhauladhar. It is a steady climb rather than a technical one.
Which Himachal treks need a guide?
The multi-day ones: Sar Pass, a four-to-five-day crossing with a snow section run as fixed departures; Bhrigu Lake at 4,235 m; and Beas Kund, usually three days with camps. Treks into the Great Himalayan National Park also need a permit and a guide from the park's offices.
Which month is best for treks in Himachal?
September and October for most of them. Triund, Kheerganga, Serolsar and Sar Pass all list September, October is the best month for Kheerganga and Serolsar, and Beas Kund and Bhrigu are clearest in September and early October. April to June suits the lower walks, with snow higher up.
