Kibber
Kibber sits at 4,270 m near Kaza, one of the highest villages on the Spiti circuit, with its own monastery and a wildlife sanctuary close by.
What it is
A village at 4,270 m, among the highest on the regular Spiti circuit, past Key Monastery and Chicham Bridge from Kaza. Cultivated fields fill the valley floor in season, and the village was historically the last permanent settlement in Spiti on the old trade route to Ladakh and Tibet.
Getting there
About 41 minutes by road from Kaza, over Chicham Bridge. A seasonal bus service connects the two towns through the summer.
The visit
Kibber's own monastery is a modest, low-key stop compared with Key Monastery, and the village itself — narrow lanes between stone houses, fields worked right up to the edge of the settlement — is worth a slow walk on its own. It's also the usual base for visiting the Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary nearby, home to around 30 snow leopards, and for treks towards the high pass of Parang La into Ladakh.

When to go
June to September. Agriculture and the green fields that define the village visually are a summer feature; the rest of the year Kibber sits under snow.
