Massive slanted mud walls and battlements, striped vertically in red ochre and white, give it the look of a fort rather than an ordinary temple hall — the same building tradition Key Monastery and Dhankar share.

Getting there
A short drive from Kaza, about 16 minutes — one of the closer stops on the circuit despite Komic's reputation as one of the world's highest motorable villages.
The visit
The monastery's fortified silhouette, seen from the road below, is as striking as anything inside it — a deliberate design choice from an era when a monastery on this frontier needed to double as a defensible structure. Prayer flags line the ridge above. The canyon-edge setting gives a direct view back down towards Kaza and the valley floor.
