Getting there
Kaza is reached from Shimla via Kinnaur (NH505, open year-round except landslides) or from Manali via Rohtang Pass and Kunzum La (closed roughly October to June). See the hub guide for the full arrival table.

Know before you go
- Hire a taxi for the day rather than trying to arrange separate rides — there's no local bus network connecting these stops.
- Altitude affects most first-time visitors here — Kaza itself sits at 3,650 m, and Kibber and Chicham Bridge are higher still. Take it slowly on day one.
- Carry cash — none of these stops take cards, and change is limited.

Key Monastery, Kibber and Chicham Bridge — Spiti's best-known trio on this side of the valley — yes, comfortably in one day. Dhankar and the Pin valley monasteries further out need at least one more day each to visit properly.
How far is Kibber from Kaza?
About 41 minutes by road, roughly 19 km, past Key Monastery and over Chicham Bridge — one of the highest villages on the regular circuit, at 4,270 m above sea level, with cultivated fields in season and snow leopard country nearby.
Do the monasteries charge an entry fee?
No — Key Monastery and Kibber's own monastery are active places of worship, not ticketed sites. A modest donation is customary and welcomed, but nothing is required to enter or look around inside respectfully at either one, any time of day.
