Two days: the town's three main stops on the first, then the two places you drive to on the second. The first day is the one-day plan unchanged. The second takes you to Sir George Everest's House at Park Estate and then down the Chakrata road to Kempty Falls.

Timing is in when to visit Mussoorie, and the stops are in things to do in Mussoorie.

Who this is for

Visitors with a night to spare who want the surveyor's house and the waterfall as well as the town.

Day 2

Everest's house and the waterfall

Two drives out of town: the surveyor's house in the morning and the falls after lunch.

  1. 09:30
    George Everest's House
    viewpoint · 14 min from Mussoorie · about 1 h there
The house and laboratory at Park Estate, 14 minutes out, with views over the Doon valley and the Aglar valley.
  2. ↓ 36 min by road · 16 km
    12:30
    Kempty Falls
    waterfall · 30 min from Mussoorie · about 1 h 30 min there
The waterfall on the Chakrata road, 30 minutes from town; allow time for the steps back up.

Getting there

Mussoorie is about 22 km and 46 minutes by road above Dehradun station, and about 250 km from Delhi on our routing. See how to reach Mussoorie.

Where to stay

Stay in Mussoorie for the night. The second day's drives start and end there.

Know before you go

  • Hire a taxi for the second day and agree a waiting time at the Everest house and at Kempty Falls.
  • We have no verified opening hours for the Everest museum; ask in town before you go.
  • Finish at Kempty Falls and come back up the road before dark, because the climb is slower than the drive down.

Questions people ask

Is two days in Mussoorie too long?

Not if you want Sir George Everest's House and Kempty Falls as well as the town. The first day covers Gun Hill, Happy Valley and Landour close to the town centre, and the second needs a taxi, with the Everest house 14 minutes out and the falls 30 minutes out.

Where should you stay for the night?

In Mussoorie itself, which has the rooms. Wikipedia says Landour Cantonment has no commercial hotels and the bazaar fewer than ten basic ones, so Landour is a walk, not a base. A room near the Mall Road keeps Gun Hill and the town on foot.

Can you do the second day without a car?

It is harder. Both stops are outside the town centre and we have no verified bus timings. A taxi for the morning to the Everest house and the afternoon to Kempty Falls is the practical way, so agree the price and the waiting time before you set off.
