Best time to visit Mussoorie — month by month
How this guide is built
The only weather source we have for Mussoorie is Wikipedia's description of its seasons; it gives no monthly table. So this guide describes seasons and quotes the few numbers it has, and does not invent a temperature for every month.
Month by month
- April and May. Warm and generally dry and clear, before the rains. The easiest months for the views from Landour
and Gun Hill, and also the crowded ones, when visitors come from the plains.
- June to September. Heavy rain from mid-June. July and August average about 660 mm a month, because the moist monsoon air is forced up the
slope. Wikipedia says Landour gets almost daily rain, and the rainy season there can run from May to September.
- October and November. Dry and clear and substantially cooler. The long view of the snow range is most likely, and the winterline, a
false horizon at dusk, shows from October to February.
- December to February. Cool and partly cloudy, with a few spells of snow; Landour can see snow three to fifteen times in a winter, and
roughly twice what the town gets. The Winterline Carnival is held in December.
- March. We have no source that describes it separately; treat it as the end of winter.
What to plan around
Landour is 2 to 3 °C cooler than Mussoorie, so bring a layer for the ridge. The roads are hill roads in every season, and heavy rain slows them. Check the road with your hotel before you start from Dehradun.
