A working week in the Parvati valley: a room and a desk on the far bank at Chalal, the signal and the power told honestly, and a night in Tosh at the weekend.
Kasol has had people working from its cafés for longer than most places have had the word for it. The far bank at Chalal is where they sit: a table by a socket, a signal that holds most of the day, the river below the window, and a week's room rate that comes in under the nightly band. This plan is that week — five working days of the same daily shape, with the valley kept for the weekend: a night in Tosh, and the orchards on the way down.
It is honest about the signal, which varies café by café and drops in rain, and about the power, which goes. Nothing is booked ahead; the room and the desk are found on the first day, and every road minute is measured on the actual road.

Who this is for
Anyone who works from a laptop and can take the days they need to find the signal. Not for anyone who needs a call every hour on the hour — the valley is not that. Without the laptop, the slow week alone has the same rhythm and more walking. Most people who come for a week stay for two; the plan repeats.
Day by day
Day 1
Arrive, find the desk
The first day is logistics — a room in Chalal for the week, a café with a table by a socket and a signal that holds, cash for seven days — and the river once that is done.

Day 2
Monday — the shape of the day
A morning on the far bank's café, the bridge and the market at lunch for a change of scene, the river at four, dinner on the path. Every working day here has this shape.

Day 3
Tuesday — the same, with Choj for dinner
Work as Monday. In the evening the river path the other way, to the hamlet at the end of the bridge road for dinner by the water.

Day 4
Wednesday — Manikaran after work
A day that finishes early. The late-afternoon bus up to Manikaran for the hot tanks after the day-trip buses have gone, and the langar for dinner.

Day 5
Thursday and Friday — the desk, and the week's admin
Two working days to finish the week's work, with Friday evening for the taxi stand — the weekend's run to Barshaini, booked and paid on the day.

Day 6
Saturday — Tosh, and a night away from the desk

Day 7
Sunday — down through the orchards
Down from Tosh before lunch, across to the orchards at Pulga and Kalga for the afternoon, and back to the base for the last evening.

Day 8
Monday — pack, and the road
A last breakfast on the path and the bus down the valley through Jari to Bhuntar — or another week, which is what most people do.

Getting there
Through Bhuntar, 32 km and about 70 minutes below Kasol. Arrive on a Friday or a Saturday so the first working day is not also the finding-a-room day. The plan ends on the same road, with the bus down through Jari to Bhuntar.
Where to stay
Chalal, one room, all seven nights, with a table by the window and a week's rate agreed on the first day. Choj is the alternative if the camps' company suits you better than Chalal's quiet; Kasol's market street is convenient and loud. The weekend night is away, in Tosh.
Know before you go
- Sit in three cafés before choosing one: the signal changes every fifty metres on the far bank, and the best view is not always the best wifi.
- Prices are bands checked in September 2026; a week's rate is quoted on the day and comes in under them.
- The power goes; a charged laptop by nine and a bank in the bag.
- Rain drops the signal for hours — plan the calls for dry mornings.
- Draw the week's cash on the first day; the ATMs empty every weekend.
- A torch for the river path every evening.
