What a Kasol trip costs on the ground — the honest price sheet

How to read this page

Every number here is a band, not a price: the range we found in the local market in September 2026, quoted on the day by the counter, the driver or the guesthouse, and moved by the season. We do not sell any of it and we do not take bookings, so there is no reason for us to round anything in either direction. Where a thing is free we say so, and in this valley more is free than most places.

What is free

The footbridge at Kasol and the river path to Chalal. The walk up to Tosh from Barshaini, and to Kalga and Pulga. The path to Kheerganga and the pool at the top — no permit, no entry, no ticket. The gurdwara at Manikaran: the tanks, the langar, the courtyard. The river, in every month, from the bank.

What you pay on the day — the bands

• A guesthouse room in Kasol or Chalal — typically ₹800–2,500 a night in season. Under the band in the monsoon and the winter; above it on the long weekends of May, June and October. A week's stay gets a rate.
• A camp or hut at Kheerganga — typically ₹500–1,500 per person per night with dinner. Arranged on arrival or through the Kasol counters; cash only, and the price rises when the meadow is full.
• The taxi Kasol–Barshaini — typically ₹800–1,500 one way; more to wait for the walk down. Shared between four it is a bus fare each.
• The taxi Kasol–Malana road-end — typically ₹1,200–2,000 one way. There is no bus beyond Jari and no taxi at the road-end, so the same car waits.
• A guide for Kheerganga — typically ₹1,000–2,000 a day from the counters in the Kasol market. Not needed in clear weather on the main path; useful in cloud, early snow or the monsoon, and for a first time.
• The valley bus Bhuntar–Kasol — ₹50–100 on the state corporation's ordinary fare; the same order of money for each leg up the valley to Manikaran and Barshaini.

What moves with the season

May and June and the October long weekends sit at the top of every band and above it: the rooms in Chalal go a day ahead, the camps at Kheerganga fill by four, the taxis quote high. July and August are the bottom — rooms under the band, no one needing to book — and December to February the same, with half the cafés shut. Where cash matters

Everywhere above the market. Kasol's ATMs are the last in the valley and empty over a weekend; Manikaran's is often dry; the camps, the village guesthouses, the dhabas on the path and the taxi stand take notes. Draw the whole stay on the first morning. The cafés on the Chalal side increasingly take a transfer, and the signal increasingly lets them, but not in rain.

What it adds up to

Two people, three nights, by bus and on foot: a room in the middle of the band, meals in the cafés, the bus up the valley and the langar once — a modest trip by any hill standard. The same three nights with a taxi every day and the top of the room band is about double. The budget plan is the first version day by day; the classic three days the second.
