The best time to visit Kullu — month by month, from the IMD record
How to read the numbers
Kullu has no weather station of its own in the IMD tables; the nearest is Bhuntar, the airport a short way down the Beas and a little lower. Its normals are the best guide to the town's year: warm summers with highs above 30 °C, a short wet monsoon, a clear dry autumn, and cold winter nights.

March and April — spring
Days warm from 22.7 °C in March to 27.3 °C in April, nights from 6.8 °C to 9.8 °C. March is wetter than it feels, at 116.7 mm, but the slopes are in blossom and the walk to Bijli Mahadev on its ridge is at its best before the heat. April is the easier of the two.
May and June — the warm months
The warmest stretch, with highs of 31.3 °C in May and 32.9 °C in June. The highway fills with traffic heading for Manali, and the Beas runs hard with snowmelt. Raft at Pirdi or camp at Raison on the river, and walk early in the day.
July to September — the monsoon
July and August are the wettest months on the record, at 135.6 mm and 129.4 mm, and September still brings 77.4 mm. Slides can close stretches of the highway, the ridge path to Bijli Mahadev is slick, and rafting stops when the river is high. The town and its temples carry on; keep the days short and a spare day for the road.
October and November — the clear months
October is the clearest month of the year, 24.8 mm of rain, with days around 27.9 °C. It is also the month of Kullu Dussehra, which begins on Vijayadashami and runs for seven days on the Dhalpur maidan, when the deities of the valley come down to attend Raghunath; every room in town fills, so book early or plan around it. November is drier still, at 21.6 mm, cooler, with nights of 4.9 °C, and quiet once the fair is over.
December to February — winter
Nights fall to 1.5 °C in December and 1.6 °C in January on the Bhuntar record, with days of 18.2 °C and 16.1 °C. Snow lies on the ridges above the town but rarely settles in it. The temples and the Dhalpur ground are quiet, rooms are cheaper, and Manali, 40 km up the valley, has the snow; see Manali in December and where to see snow in Himachal.
