Sharchi

What it is

A village on the slope across the river from Gushaini, reached by a side road that climbs from the bridge. Homestays with terraces facing the valley, walks along the terraces, and the quiet the river road no longer has. The place to sleep for the view rather than the door.

Getting there

By the side road from the bridge at Gushaini — 46 minutes from Banjar by road, the last stretch steep and narrow — or on foot from the bridge, a steep hour up through the fields. Homestays are typically ₹1,500–3,500 a night in season with meals as of September 2026; ask for dinner when you arrive, since the kitchen is the family's.

The day

Breakfast on the terrace, the walk down to the river and back before the heat, lunch with the valley below — trout at ₹400–700 a plate — and the afternoon in a chair. Everything on the river side is across the bridge: the ecozone paths, the Chhoie waterfall above Nagini, the park with a permit from Sai Ropa.

When to go

March to June and September to November; October for the clearest valley from the terrace. The monsoon makes the side road a question and the terraces mud; winter is cold, quiet and open.
