What it is

A fall in a side stream on the slope above Nagini, reached by a forest path of about half an hour from the river road. A pool at the bottom, deodars around it, and in the monsoon the noise of it from the road. The river side's short walk, the way the Jibhi waterfall is the pass side's.

Getting there

By the river road to Nagini, 8 km and 14 minutes from Banjar by the valley bus or a taxi. The path leaves the road at the hamlet — ask at a homestay for the start — and climbs through deodar and oak, steep in places, for about half an hour on a path our router could not measure. Less coming down. No guide.

The day

The walk in the morning while the path is in shade, the pool for as long as the cold allows, and the river road back for lunch at a camp on the bank. It pairs with Gushaini's river path for a full day on foot on the river side, which is what the ecozone walks plan does.

When to go

October first, for the full fall and the dry path; April to June for the walk, with a thinner fall; the monsoon for the sound from the road and nothing closer. Iced at the edges from December.

Around it

Nagini below on the river. Gushaini a few minutes up the road. Sai Ropa a few minutes down, for the park's museum and permit.

Questions people ask

How do I get to the Chhoie waterfall?

By the river road to Nagini, 8 km and 14 minutes from Banjar as of September 2026, then on foot: up through deodar and oak on a path that is steep in places. About half an hour up, on a path our router could not measure, and less down. Ask at any homestay in Nagini for the start.

Can you swim at the Chhoie waterfall?

There is a pool at the bottom and people do sit at its edge in summer, but the water is cold in every month and the rock around it is slick; in the monsoon the fall is a roar to be watched from a distance. Treat it as a place to sit and look, never to stand under.

When is the Chhoie waterfall best?

October, after the monsoon has filled it and before the cold — the path is dry, the fall is full and the forest is clear. It is thin in May and June, loud and dangerous in July and August, and iced at the edges from December. A weekday morning is empty; the camps at Nagini fill it on a weekend afternoon.
