How long do you need for Palampur's tea gardens?
About an hour is enough to walk a stretch of the terraces and look up at the Dhauladhar range. Go early, before the cloud builds, and bring a light layer. Most visitors pair it with Andretta, which is a short drive away, so the whole day stays relaxed.
Why is Andretta known as an artists' village?
The Irish theatre artist Norah Richards made it her home in 1924, building a mud-and-slate house she called Chameli Niwas. The painter Sobha Singh and the potter Gurcharan Singh followed her there, and locals came to call it the village of the memsahib.
Can you do Palampur in one day?
Yes. The tea gardens are about 3 minutes from the centre and Andretta is about 19 minutes away, so both fit into a morning and early afternoon. Baijnath Temple, about 30 minutes out, needs its own day if you want time at the temple.
