Know before you go

  • We have no verified opening times or fares for the ropeways or the temples, so ask locally before you queue.
  • Wikipedia says alcohol and non-vegetarian food are not permitted in Haridwar, and leather goods are prohibited inside the Chandi Devi Temple.
  • Both hill temples can be climbed on foot, but the Chandi Devi path is a 3 km walk of steps, so choose the ropeway if the heat is high.

Questions people ask

Is two days too long for Haridwar?

Not if you want all five main sites at an easy pace. One day covers the ghat and the hill temples, and the second day adds the old Maya Devi Temple and Kankhal. Most visitors stay one night, and many pair Haridwar with Rishikesh, which is 26 minutes north by road on our routing.

What are the Siddha pithas of Haridwar?

Wikipedia names three Siddha pithas in Haridwar, the Mansa Devi, Chandi Devi and Maya Devi temples, which are places of worship where desires are believed to be fulfilled. All three are on this plan, along with the ghat and the Kankhal temple tied to the legend of Sati.

How far is Kankhal from the ghat?

About 9 minutes by road on our routing, with the Daksheswara Mahadev Temple about 5 km from Har Ki Pauri. Wikipedia says Kankhal is about 4 km from Haridwar. We have not measured any walking legs, so ask locally for the way and allow extra time on festival days.
