Things to do in Ramnagar — the park, the river shrine and Corbett's village
Ramnagar is a base more than a destination: most of what there is to do is in the park to the north, in the shrines along the Kosi, and on the road towards Nainital.
Go into the park
Jim Corbett National Park is India's first national park, with about 260 tigers and about 1,100 elephants counted in recent surveys. Permits are issued at the reception office in town and visitors hire permitted vehicles; Wikivoyage names the Dhikala, Bijrani, Jhirna, Durga Devi and Dhela zones. Plan more than one safari if you hope for a tiger.
See the Garjiya Devi Temple
The temple sits on a big rock in the Kosi, about 14 km from town, and draws thousands of devotees at Kartik Purnima.
Visit Sitavani
Sitavani, a forest shrine of Sita about 20 km from Ramnagar by Wikipedia's account, holds a fair at Ramanavami. We have no measured drive time for it.
Drive to Corbett Falls and Kaladhungi
Corbett Falls is a 20 m waterfall in the forest beside the highway, and Kaladhungi is the town where Jim Corbett lived; his house there is now a museum.
Watch birds
Wikipedia counts more than 580 bird species in the park and says the Kosi barrage at Ramnagar draws migratory birds in winter.
Plan it
The park-gate day and the Kaladhungi day put these in order. Read when to visit and how to reach Ramnagar.
