Two days in Chamba — the old town and Chhatrari
Two days: the old town of Chamba first, then the long road to Shakti Devi Temple at Chhatrari. The first day repeats the one-day plan with the Bhuri Singh Museum left out, taking in Champavati Temple, the Lakshmi Narayan temples and Chamunda Devi Temple; the second is the drive. See how to reach Chamba.

Getting there
Chamba is about 40 km from Dalhousie, roughly 90 minutes by car or bus. See the hub guide for the full arrival table.
Where to stay
Stay in Chamba both nights; Chhatrari is a day trip, not a place to sleep on this plan.
Know before you go
- Leave for Chhatrari early; the road is slow and you want daylight for the return.
- Carry water and a snack, as there is little between Chamba and the temple.

All Chamba itineraries →Questions people ask
How far is Chhatrari from Chamba?
About 48 km by road, roughly 99 minutes each way. That is why the plan gives it a day of its own, with an early start from Chamba and a return by evening, so the slow mountain road is driven in daylight both ways.
Is two days enough for Chamba?
Yes for the old town and one far temple. A third day could add Khajjiar, which is about 53 minutes away and is covered in our Dalhousie guide, so it fits as an easy extension if you have the time and want to see the meadow too.
Where should you stay for this plan?
In Chamba for both nights. Every stop on day one is a short walk or a short drive from the old town, and day two starts and ends in town, so there is no reason to move your bags or change hotels between the two days of the plan.
