Arunachal Pradesh Inner Line Permit — the tourist eILP for Tawang, Ziro and the rest of the state
Every Indian visitor to Arunachal Pradesh needs an Inner Line Permit, and tourists apply for it online on the state government's eILP portal. These are the rules as the portal states them, read on 23 October 2026. The portal is sometimes down for maintenance, so apply well before you travel.

Who needs it
The portal says the ILP is a mandatory document for Indian nationals visiting the state. The tourist eILP is for Indian citizens only and covers a stay of up to 14 days. Children under 14 do not need their own eILP, but must travel with an adult.
The fee
The revised tourist eILP fee on the portal is:
- ₹300 for a stay of up to 3 days;
- ₹500 for more than 3 days and up to 14 days.
The fee cannot be refunded once paid. For a stay longer than 14 days, the portal points you to the provisional ILP instead.
Documents
- A recent colour photograph on a light background, facing the camera, without headgear unless worn on religious or traditional grounds.
- A scan of one identity document: driving licence, passport, ration card, voter ID, Aadhaar or permanent resident certificate.
- Documents in English or Hindi. Students up to 18 give a parent's or guardian's documents. Photo and documents can also come from DigiLocker.
The portal lists the exact file sizes and formats it accepts; check them as you upload.
Foreign nationals
The eILP is not for foreigners. Foreign nationals apply for a Protected Area Permit or a Restricted Area Permit through the Government of India's e-FRRO service.
On the road
Carry the permit, printed and on your phone, with the identity card you applied with. Wikivoyage notes that on the road from Tezpur the permit is checked at the state border at Bhalukpong.
