Nuranang Falls, also called Jang or Bong Bong Falls: a 100 m waterfall near Jang, 80 minutes from Tawang on the road from Sela Pass, and the story of Nura.

What it is

Nuranang Falls is the great waterfall of the Tawang road, about 100 m high, near the small town of Jang. The Nuranang river rises on the northern slopes of Sela Pass, runs down the valley, and drops over a green cliff in one broad white plume before it joins the Tawang Chu.

The story of the name

Wikipedia records that the falls are named after Nura, a Monpa girl remembered, with her friend Sela, for helping Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat in November 1962; the pass and its lake carry Sela's name. The falls are also known as Jang Falls and Bong Bong Falls, and a song of the 1997 film Koyla was filmed here.

The falls are about 2 km from Jang, by Wikipedia, and about 38 km and 80 minutes from Tawang on our routing. A small hydel plant stands near the foot of the fall. The spray soaks everything in the rains; keep to the paths and off wet rocks. We have no verified timings or fees.
