Nehru Kund

Nehru Kund is a cold spring beside the Solang road at Bahang, 5 km and about 8 min above Manali, with the Beas below and the valley opening ahead.

What it is

A cold spring beside the Solang road at Bahang, rising clear into a small tank with a shrine beside it and the Beas below, named for the first prime minister who is said to have drunk from it. It is the first place the valley opens ahead after the town, and a ten-minute stop on the way to Solang, Kothi or the tunnel.

Getting there

About 5 km and roughly 8 min from the bus stand on the road north; every taxi and shared cab going up passes it, and the walk from town along the road takes under an hour. Nothing to pay.

What to do

Look, mainly: the spring, the shrine, and the view down over the river and up the valley to the ridge. The water rises clear and the custom is to drink; anyone with a sensitive stomach should look instead. The tank is not for bathing. Stalls sell tea and bottled water.

Around it

Solang and the fork at Palchan are on up the road; Kothi and its gorge above that; Old Manali and Vashisht are back down towards the town. The Sissu day trip passes here first thing.
