The railway station itself is the anchor of a visit here, with many residents keeping long-stay houses and flats in the town today. Summer temperatures range between 10°C and 23°C and winters between 5°C and 15°C — genuinely cool at this elevation, comfortable even at the height of the season. Until 2003 the main Chandigarh-Shimla highway passed directly through Barog; a bypass built that year now avoids the settlement's own steep incline.
