What can you see in Guwahati in one day?
Kamakhya Temple on Nilachal Hill, Umananda Island in the Brahmaputra, and the Assam State Museum. On our routing they are about 14, 3 and 1 minutes from the centre, so the day is mostly time at the sights. Start at Kamakhya early, before the crowds, and keep the museum for the afternoon.
How do you reach Umananda Island?
By country boat from the bank of the Brahmaputra near the Kachari Ghat, opposite the district office, by Wikipedia's account. The island is the smallest inhabited river island in the world, and its temple of Shiva stands on the hill Bhasmachala. We have no verified boat fares or timings, so ask at the ghat.
When is the Assam State Museum open?
Wikipedia gives 10:00 to 17:00 in summer and 10:00 to 16:30 in winter, with closures on Mondays, government holidays and two Saturdays a month. That may change, so check before you go. The museum stands at the south end of the Dighalipukhuri tank in the middle of the city.
