A single day for anyone based in Dalhousie with one free day — Panchpula, a short walk from the GPO, Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary's deodar forest, and Dainkund, the highest point near town.

About 12 minutes by road, roughly 5 km — close enough that some visitors walk part of the way. The spot is known for where five small streams meet on their way down the hillside, which is where the name comes from.

How long should I spend at Kalatop?

At least an hour or two if walking any of the marked trails — the forest itself, not a single sight, is the reason to stop, and rushing through defeats the whole point of visiting a sanctuary built around slow walking through it.

Is Dainkund worth the drive?

Yes, for the views alone — it's the highest point near Dalhousie, and a ridge walk from the road-head reaches views over three rivers on a clear day. Cloud can close in fast, so check the weather before committing to the walk.
