How to reach Almora from Delhi, Kathgodam, Haldwani, Nainital, Ranikhet and Kausani by road, with measured times and the nearest railway and airport.

How these numbers were made

From Delhi we ask a public OpenStreetMap router for a free-flow car time. From Kathgodam and inside the hills we use our own BRouter routing. Buses are slower, and traffic and mountain roads add time, so treat every figure as the least you should plan for.

  • Kathgodam railway station: 88 km, about 175 minutes.
  • Haldwani: 89 km, about 172 minutes.
  • Pantnagar airport: 120 km, about 201 minutes.
  • Nainital: 64 km, about 125 minutes.
  • Ranikhet: 46 km, about 92 minutes.
  • Kausani: 52 km, about 101 minutes.

By air, rail and bus

The nearest railway station is Kathgodam and the airport that serves the Kumaon region is Pantnagar, with Delhi's airport the nearest international one. Wikipedia says the state transport corporation runs buses from Almora to Delhi, Dehradun, Lucknow and Chandigarh. We have no verified train, flight or bus timetable, so check current services.

How far is Almora from Delhi?

About 365 km by road on our routing, where free-flow routing says 6 hours, and traffic and hill roads usually add several more. Wikipedia gives the same 365 km. Plan on a full day with an early start, and expect the last stretch from the plains to be slow, because it is a climbing hill road.

What is the nearest railway station and airport?

Kathgodam, about 88 km and 175 minutes below Almora on our routing, is the nearest station, where Wikipedia says the broad-gauge line from Delhi ends. Pantnagar airport is about 120 km and 201 minutes away on our routing and serves Kumaon. Check current trains and flights.

Can you go from Almora to Nainital, Ranikhet or Kausani in a day?

Yes. On our routing Nainital is about 64 km and 125 minutes, Ranikhet 46 km and 92 minutes, and Kausani 52 km and 101 minutes. Wikipedia says Almora is about 63 km north of Nainital. Hill roads are slower in rain, so leave a margin.
