Teesta Bazaar — the Teesta and Rangeet confluence below Kalimpong

Teesta Bazaar, the river village below Kalimpong at about 90 m: where the Rangeet joins the Teesta at Triveni, rafting on the rapids, and the road down.

What it is

Teesta Bazaar is a small village at the bottom of the valley, about 90 m above sea level, on the right bank of the Teesta river below Kalimpong. The road drops a long way from the town ridge to the river, through warmer, greener country. Wikipedia says the river enters West Bengal near here.

Triveni and the rafting

The spot where the green Rangeet joins the Teesta is called Triveni, and Wikipedia says tourists have started camping there. The village is the base for river rafting: three stretches of 3 km, 8 km and 12 km, on rapids that are mostly Class I to III. The hill council introduced rafting here in 1991.

Being sensible

Much of the area around the Teesta is patrolled by the Indian Army. Follow local advice, keep to open paths, and ask before you photograph. We have no verified rafting operators, fares or safety rules, and the monsoon can change the river and the road in a day; ask in Kalimpong and check on the morning you go.

Combine it with

The two days with Teesta and Pedong puts the river in the second day. Read when to visit Kalimpong.
