Two days at Cherrapunji — the big falls, Kynrem Falls and Mawmluh Cave

A two-day Cherrapunji plan: Nohkalikai and the Seven Sisters, then Mawmluh Cave and Kynrem Falls, with road times and what we cannot verify. Free to copy.
Planning to go?Add your dates — we’ll count down, and tell you when stays or batches open for them.

Two slower days. The first takes the Nohkalikai Falls and the Nohsngithiang Falls; the second visits Mawmluh Cave, a maze cave of 7.2 km that ranks fourth in length on the subcontinent, and Kynrem Falls. For one day only, see the short plan.

Who this is for

Visitors who stay a night; the rainy months fill the falls and the cloud often hides them.

Questions people ask

Is two days enough for Cherrapunji?

For the falls and a cave, yes. The stops lie 10 to 40 minutes from the town on our routing, and the viewpoints depend on weather, so the plan is slow. The living root bridges need a separate full day and a local guide, and Mawlynnong and Dawki are a long separate trip from Shillong.

What is Mawmluh Cave known for?

Wikipedia says it is a maze cave 7.2 km long, the fourth longest in the Indian subcontinent. In 2022 the International Union of Geological Sciences listed it as a geological heritage site, as the reference point of the Meghalayan Stage of geological time. We have no verified visiting rules.

When is the best time for this plan?

June to October for full falls, accepting cloud, or October and November for a compromise. The IMD normals give 2,608.1 mm of rain in June and 49.3 mm in November. Wikipedia says Nohkalikai weakens from December to February. Ask locally about the road and the cave before you go.
