Things to do in Mukteshwar — the temple, the cliffs and a slow ridge walk
Mukteshwar is small and quiet, and most of what there is to do is outdoors and within walking distance of the centre.
Visit the temple
The Mukteshwar Mahadev Temple, said to be about 350 years old, stands at the highest point of the town and gave it its name.
See the cliffs
Chauli Ki Jali is a set of overhanging cliffs used for rock climbing and rappelling, with views over the valleys. Go in dry weather with a registered operator.
Learn the history
The veterinary institute moved its laboratory here in 1893. Its museum holds the microscope used by Robert Koch, and a cold room carved into the hill around 1900 is a visitor attraction; ask about access.
Walk the ridge
Wikivoyage suggests strolling the main road from the institute to the PWD house for the mountain views, and puts the sunrise point at the PWD guest house. Wikipedia counts views of 22 snow peaks.
Trails and waterfalls
Wikipedia names trails such as Peora to Almora, Peora to Mukteshwar and the Arta trek from Binsar. Wikivoyage names waterfalls and the village of Satoli, about 21 km away. We have no measured routes or times for these.
