Ladakh is the high, dry land beyond the Himalaya. The road from Manali crosses Baralacha La and the More plains to Leh; from Leh, trips go to the Nubra valley over the Khardung La road, to the long blue Pangong Tso and to Tso Moriri. We plan road trips and treks there, with acclimatisation days in Leh built in — the altitude is the first thing to respect.

Manali → Jispa
Through the Atal Tunnel into Lahaul, along the Bhaga river to Jispa.

Jispa → Sarchu
Over Baralacha La to the high camp at Sarchu.

Sarchu → Leh
Across the More plains and over Tanglang La down to Leh.

Leh
A rest day to acclimatise — the palace, Shanti Stupa and the old town.

Leh → Nubra
Over the Khardung La road to the dunes of the Nubra valley.

Nubra → Pangong Tso
Along the Shyok river to the long blue lake.

Pangong → Leh
Back over Chang La to Leh.
